Arsenio Hall Show Highlights

After a nineteen year absence The Arsenio Hall Show returned to television last night. I didn’t watch it growing up, so I’m not really sure what to expect.

The cold open was decent enough:

Here were my favorite monologue jokes:

Leave it to the first black late-night host to take nineteen years off work…and come back here and expect my job to still be waiting for me.

A lot has changed since my original show was on the air. Back then the only doctor that prescribed marijuana was Dr. Dre.

The question I get most is, “Arsenio, what have you been doing for the last nineteen years?” And I usually respond with, “What the hell have you been doing for the last nineteen years? Get out my business.”

The comedy segment was Arsenio’s Time Capsule. It was ok, but not worth watching.

Chris Tucker was the first couch guest. He is currently on a stand-up tour around the US. The interview was good. Chris was energetic and told some amusing stories. Here’s the interview:

Snoop Dogg was the second couch guest. He is a rap and hip hop legend. The interview was ok, but too short. Snoop was respectable and mellow. He did perform a few songs throughout the show, but I would have preferred to exchange one of the songs for more time talking to him on the couch. Still, the interview is worth watching if you have a few minutes. It’s at the 10:07 mark in the Chris Tucker interview clip.

There’s plenty of room for improvement, naturally, but a fine first show. I give it:
