Conan Highlights
Conan O’Brien has officially returned to late-night television with the debut of his show Conan on TBS. My goodness it was nice to see him again.
His cold open was nothing less than hilarious. If you watch none of the other videos in this review, I think you should watch this:
Here were my favorite monologue jokes:
Welcome to my new show. It’s called “Conan.” People asked me why I named the show “Conan”; I did it so I’d be harder to replace.
This is an exciting night. I’m really glad to be on cable. The truth is, ladies and gentlemen, I have dreamed of being a talk show host on basic cable ever since I was forty six.
A lots happened in the news since I went off the air, and I wanted to cover it all in one joke. Then I realized that’s like trying to keep an Icelandic volcano from wearing Lady Gaga’s meat dress while a trapped Chilean miner cleans up the BP oil spill comma Brett Favre’s penis.
The desk segments were playing with the moon that hangs in the background behind Conan’s desk, the Conan O’Brien Halloween mask and a special video message from Ricky Gervais. The first segment doesn’t have a clip, but the 2nd and 3rd segments do, and they’re really funny:
The first first guest was, well, it was a contest and I don’t want to spoil who won. You’ll just have to watch:
Seth Rogen was the first couch guest. He is in the upcoming film The Green Hornet. I’m a fan of Seth and really like his dark sense of humor. I’m also really impressed, and jealous, with how thin he’s gotten. The interview was pretty entertaining:
Lea Michele was the second couch guest. She is one of the stars of Glee. Her interview was fun as well, though it seemed over so quickly:
Jack White was the musical guest. Jack, Conan and Jimmy Vivino and the Basic Cable Band performed the song together. For those of us who couldn’t attend the Conan tour over the summer, it was neat to finally see a piece of what it was like:
Great show. I give it:
– Woody
Thanks for putting this up, I missed the first night. That cold open was just awesome. I did catch it last night to see what they would do to Tom Hanks.
It was great to have Conan back, but I was a little disappointed to not see Max. I guess he’s touring with Bruce.
Yeah, I miss Max too. He was a terrific part of Team Coco. He decided that he wanted to move back to NJ and take life a little bit easier.
