Late Night Highlights

Letterman is still on vacation, so we’re back to Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. It was a busy, busy show. Here were my favorite monologue jokes:

During his weekly radio address Obama said we’ve finally begun to put the brakes on this recession, which is good news. Unfortunately the brakes were built by General Motors.

Congratulations to Cheech Marin of Cheech and Chong who married his long time girlfriend over the weekend. Cheech said it was a day he’ll never remember. It was catered by Funyuns. His best man was Michael Phelps. The ceremony was at 4:20. And for the record, Dave wasn’t there.

New study from the University of British Columbia found that average dog is as smart as a two year-old child. That doesn’t sound right. I mean, I’ve never seen a two year-old kid playing poker.

The first half of the desk segment was the season one finale of 7th Floor West.

The second half was a preview of their next show, The Real Housewives of Late Night.

Eric Bana was the first couch guest. He’s staring in The Time Traveler’s Wife, which opens this Friday. Before today my knowledge and experience with Eric was limited to his appearance in the Star Trek movie, so I didn’t have much of an opinion of him going into his appearance on Late Night. It turns out Eric is a pretty cool guy. It was a funny and intelligent interview. At the end he was even nice enough to teach us about Australian Rules football.

Jeanine Mason was the second couch guest. Jeanie was the winner of this seasons So You Think You Can Dance. She and her partner did a really nice dance number. I wish I had a clip to show you. What I do have is her giving Jimmy a short lesson in something called the “Pop and Lock”.

Jordana Spiro was the third couch guest. She’s in the new movie The Goods. She was only on for two minutes, but she was very funny. When she first sat down she looked over at the empty couch next to her. Jimmy asked what was wrong. She turned to him with a pout on her face and asked if Eric was coming back. It was hilarious.

Fall Out Boy was the musical guest. I really like Fall Out Boy and thought their performance was great. They’re on tour with Blink 182. How cool is that?

Overall, I give last night’s show an A-.
