Late Late Show Highlights
The cold open from last night’s Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson was “Fireside Chat with William Shatner.” I wanted to like it. I wanted to like to so hard. But, even after watching it twice, I had to admit that I just couldn’t.
Here were my favorite monologue jokes:
It’s a great day if you love the moon. And who doesn’t love the moon? Al-Qaeda. “We hate the moon as well.” No, tonight is a very rare occurrence; it’s a “blood moon” eclipse. During the eclipse the Earth gets between the sun and the moon and it casts a shadow that makes the moon appear red. Tonight the moon will be so red Mars is going to be all like, “Bitch stole my look.”
Be warned, doctors believe if you stare at the lunar eclipse for just three minutes you may have smoked too much marijuana.
A “blood moon” is not to be confused with a “blue moon.” A “blue moon” is when the moon hasn’t had sex for a while and then it tries to line up with Uranus.
The comedy segment bits were phone calls and “Tweetmail”. It was very entertaining. Unfortunately, I can’t find the entire segment, but this clip I did find was the best part:
Dominic Monaghan was the first couch guest. He’s the host of Wild Things with Dominic Monaghan. The interview was great. Dominic was friendly, enthusiastic and shared some interesting tidbits about various animals. I loved Craig and Dominic’s repartee. They were both really engaged and had a lot of fun together. Here’s the interview:
Brooklyn Decker was the second couch guest. She is one of the stars of the show Friends with Better Lives. The interview was fine. Brooklyn was pleasant, had a nice sense of humor and an amusing story. There were two problems, however. First, I just didn’t really care about her. Second, I got the sense Craig didn’t either. When Craig starts an interview helping the guest plug whatever movie/show/thing s/he is on, that tells me he can’t think of anything more interesting he’d rather discuss. When a guest says, “Such a riveting conversation” at the end of the interview, that tells me s/he didn’t have a very good time.
The closing segment was mediocre.
Good show. I give it:
