WAH World Tour Update

The Woody After Hours World Tour 2009 is back in Raleigh. It was a great trip, and much knowledge was transferred to the English about the webcomic that is WAH. We learned a lot ourselves, and I’d like to take a little time over the next few blog posts to pass some of that knowledge on to you. Let’s start with the opinion that…

London is an awesome metropolis

London is the kind of city where you can have a great time without an agenda of any kind. Just go outside, pick a direction and walk. There are so many interesting things to see and experience that you’d actually have to expend more energy to be bored than to have fun. Here is a very short list of the options available:

  • Beautiful parks
  • Historic monuments
  • Exceptional architecture
  • Cool stores
  • Splendid pubs
  • Unique people
  • Delicious food

Then, when the day is over and you’re tired, you can take the Tube back to your starting point. I will warn you, however that…

Crossing the street can be challenging

I’m use to large, straight roads in the States. When I cross the street I feel confident that my calculations will allow me to make it to the other side before being killed. And if my math is off, I’m reasonably secure that my fellow countryperson would rather slow down and not hit me then be bogged down by the court system, if only to be told that s/he was right.

England, and I want to make it clear that this is not specifically a London-only thing, is made up of small, curvy roads. And the people who drive those roads really do want to hit you. I’m serious. Because there are so many variables involved it takes college-level calculus to discover the tiny window available to get from one street corner to another. The timing has to be precise, and there is no room for error.

More tomorrow.
