Under Some Serious Influence
Conan issued a statement yesterday saying he won’t host the Tonight Show if NBC moves it to 12:05 AM. Personally, I thought it was extremely well written, and I applaud Conan for his decision. I’m sure it was ridiculously difficult for him to reach it.
Here was my favorite joke on the subject from Conan’s monologue last night:
You know, this is a true story, when I was a little boy I remember watching the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and thinking, someday, I’m going to host that show…for seven months.
Naturally, Conan’s supporters are out in force on the web. This page has a few examples. (Thanks for the link Paul.)
The ball is now back in NBC’s court. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if they’re willing to let Conan slip away.

Leno should have retired, or gone on to something else. having him hanging around was going to be trouble eventually.
NBC chickened out of what could have been a long running and funny Tonight Show.
Yay! A double-sized WAH!
And, oh yeah….Go Conan!
Guess the guy that let Conan build his audience when he took over for Letterman is now gone from NBC
The boy’s name Conan c(o)-nan is pronounced KOH-nan. It is of English, Irish and Gaelic origin, and its meaning is “hound, wolf; high.” Hound and wolf I get…but “high”? Hmmmmmm.
Well, I’m so drunk I’m reading this webcomic! Take THAT, sobriety!
I wonder if, after all of this total disaster, there will be an equally hysterical HBO movie about the next generation of Talk Show Wars like there was with David and Jay when Johnny was on the verge of retiring?
Does anyone remember THAT made-for-cable movie?

@Chris ya–“The Late Shift.” Craig Ferguson made a joke last night about a sequel about the current events and his “cast” for it.
I can just here the word “cut” being shouted out by someone who wants the show to be successful. 😉
