Late Late Show Highlights

The cold open from last night’s Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson was ok, but not worth your time.

Here were my favorite monologue jokes:

If you know anything about me you know this is the day I look forward to all year, because it is, of course, Jamaican Independence Day. Today in Jamaica everyone spent the day smoking, drinking, just having a good time — then they remembered it was Independence Day.

People think everyone in Jamaica smokes marijuana, and that is just not true – some of them eat it. I look forward to your letters that you started to write and then forgot about.

I’ve never been to Jamaica. I’d love to go, though, cause they have great food. They’re known for their jerk chicken. I tried to make jerk chicken once. It didn’t taste that good, but the chicken loved it.

Another reason I want to go is the first James Bond film was filmed there: Dr. No. You know, they shot all the beach scenes in Jamaica, and all the jungle scenes in the movie were shot in Sean Connery’s chest hair.

The comedy segment bit was “Tweetmail”. It was decent enough to recommend, but just barely:

Kelsey Grammer was the first couch guest. He stars on the new show Partners. The interview was fine. Kelsey was easygoing, amiable and shared some amusing tidbits. Even though there were no issues during his time in the chair, I kinda got the impression that it really didn’t matter to Kelsey whether or not he was there. He acted as if it would have been all the same to him if he was talking with Craig in front of an audience or eating an apple alone in the dark. He was so laid-back that it was nearly impossible for Craig to engage him in any sort of exciting dialogue. I’m not implying that Kelsey was at fault for his attitude. If that’s where he wants to be in his life, then all power to him. In the context of being a fun Late Late Show guest, however, his attitude didn’t fit the bill.

Sloane Crosley was the second couch guest. She’s an author. The interview was very good. Sloane was pleasant, smart, full of wit and really enjoyed being there with Craig. In other words, she was delightful and very refreshing after the Kelsey segment. She and Craig had a fun and interesting conversation full of energy and laughs. Here’s the interview:

The closing segment was quick and can be found at the end of the Sloane Crosley clip if you’re interested.

Mediocre show. I give it:
