Cracked Rear View
I can’t decide whether Rear Window or Vertigo is my favorite Alfred Hitchcock film. I always start by affirming Rear Window as the obvious winner, but then I quickly remind myself that Vertigo is really fantastic. It’s not just the plots or the acting that make these movies so wonderful, it’s the subtle messages and hints about people and society that Hitchcock hides in plain sight in each one that that make them great.
If you haven’t seen either one I highly recommend them. Yes, they are a tad dated, but I think they hold up extremely well.
What’s your favorite Hitchcock film? Leave a comment. We’d love to find out.
If you’re interested here is the scene we referenced for today’s strip. It’s near the end of the film, so if you plan to see it for the first time someday don’t watch this:

C’mon! North By Northwest!!
North by Northwest is a great movie for sure. I always enjoy watching it.
Excellent Raymond Burr illustration! My favs… North by Northwest, Vertigo, and Rear Window. Fine job.
Thanks! Paul really rocks the artwork.
Yeah I vote for North by Northwest as well. But I haven’t seen Vertigo yet.
I highly recommend it.
High Anxiety! Wait, that’s Mel Brooks’ take on Hitchcock. Probably doesn’t count.
My second choice is any with Cary Grant. Lo-o-o-ove Cary Grant!
Didn’t Hitchcock have a film (title unknown by me) in which a group of young guys carry out a murder (or at least plan one) and then have a party where they try not to be caught, but they suck at it?
Somebody did it, not sure if it was Hitchcock. That’s an entertaining movie I need to remember better. I’d rewatch it, but I’m afraid I’d need to know what it’s called first.
You may be thinking of Rope.
Disappointed no one has even mention Psycho. Or Strangers on a Train. Or Shadow of a Doubt. Or 90% of his catalog.
That’s because you didn’t give me time! Shadow of a Doubt is great. Creepy Uncle Charlie! Dial M for Murder is pretty fantastic also. And Notorious! The one with Claude Rains? Also great. Can’t decide which is my favorite, though. I think it might be Rear Window. And there’s a special place in my heart for The Birds. It’s a special place reserved for anything Suzanne-Pleshette-related.
There’s one movie of his that makes me laugh all the time. Birds. It’s just hilarious to me for some reason.
