Tonight Show Highlights

Here were my favorite monologue jokes from last night’s Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon:

Belgium wanted to give the US embassy in Brussels a gift to commemorate Obama’s visit. They decided on a life-sized cookie of President Obama wearing a “USA” sweatshirt and holding a basketball. It got even weirder when Biden spent a half an hour talking to it.

Pope Francis had to fire a German bishop, known as the “bling bishop,” after he spent over forty-three million dollars renovating his house. Although, Pope Francis was nice enough to describe it as a “conscious unbishoping.”

In board game news, Monopoly is letting fans come up with some new rules for the game. The game will still end the same way, though, when everyone says, “This sucks. Let’s do something else.”

The comedy segment bits were “Celebrity Whispers” and “Screen Grabs.” If The Tonight Show ever asks me to consult with them on ways to make their show funnier, and they should, the first thing I’m going to do is recommend that they never do the painfully unfunny “Celebrity Whispers” again. “Screen Gabs” started out week, but got better as it went along:

Bill Cosby was the first couch guest. He is, among other things, a comedy legend. The interview was very entertaining. Cosby stole the show with his improvisation, charisma and desire to buck conventional guesting by standing the entire time. The first third of interview didn’t really go anywhere, in my opinion, but the rest of it was a lot of fun:

Joby Ogwyn was the second couch guest. He will be attempting to jump off the summit of Mount Everest in a wing suit soon. The interview was fine, but I was disappointed in the show’s decision to only give the guy three minutes. I mean, they made the effort to get a guest who’s doing something incredibly unique, but then only let him talk for a minute and a half before putting Fallon in a harness so he can pretend to fly. That seems ridiculously shortsighted to me. Still, that first minute and a half did contain some interesting stuff, so here it is in case you’re interested:

Good show. I give it:
