Late Show Highlights

Do you only have six seconds available in your busy day to catch up on last night’s Late Show with David Letterman? You’re in luck then, as the fine people at LS have put together a Vine that perfectly summarizes the episode. (Vines run muted by default, mouse over the video and click the icon in the upper-left corner for sound.)

If you have more time, then here were my favorite monologue jokes:

Beautiful in New York City today. Isn’t it nice outside? Perfect summer day, 77 and sunny – like Martha Stewart.

You like basketball? How about that game last night? How many of you are rooting for the San Antonia Spurs? How many of you would like to see the Miami Heat win again? We’ll find out tomorrow night. Game seven and security is very tight. Everybody there is worried that Vladimir Putin will steal the championship trophy.

Germany is mad at the United States for the NSA eavesdropping. This, ladies and gentlemen, from the country that gave us the Gestapo.

The comedy segments were Fun Things to Do In the Summertime, Top Ten Things Going Through This Guy’s Mind and Pat Farmer: Gadgetman. The Top Ten was comical enough to recommend:

Jeff Daniels was the first couch guest. He stars on the show Newsroom. The interview was good. Jeff was mellow, nice and told some amusing stories. I’ve always liked Jeff as an actor, but honestly didn’t know anything about him personally until this interview. The one tidbit that stood out the most was that his sense of humor is darker than I imagined. That’s fine with me; it just came as a surprise. Here’s the interview:

Ken Jeong was the second couch guest. He is in the upcoming film Despicable Me 2. The interview was also good, but too short. Ken was personable, energetic and told some interesting stories. It’s too bad they didn’t have more time to talk. I thought Letterman asked some great questions, and I enjoyed learning about Ken’s life before becoming an actor. Here’s the interview:

Jim James was the musical guests. I thought he gave a decent performance, but Letterman liked it a lot more than I did. Watch it and let me know what you think:

Entertaining show. I give it:
