Late Late Show Highlights

The cold open from last night’s Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson was ok, but not worth spending your time watching.

Here were my favorite monologue jokes:

The president of Iran is in New York City. He’s visiting the UN. He’s been in America one day and he’s already passed Mitt Romney in the polls.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was interviewed on Piers Morgan’s show. I can’t believe CNN let that shady dude into the building and gave him air time… and also the president of Iran.

Dancing with the Stars is on ABC, but they actually tape it here in Television City. When I drive into the building I see all the people lined up for the audience. It’s funny watching them get all excited when they see me come in the artist’s entrance, then they go “Ugh.” It’s a bit like the audience here actually.

Most of the contestants on Dancing with the Stars are from TV, except Pamela Anderson. She’s a movie star. I’ve seen her…one movie…where Tommy Lee drove a boat with his penis. It’s true. I tried that once. I tried steering a boat with my penis – got me kicked out of the pool at the YMCA.

The comedy segment was tweetmail. It honestly wasn’t very entertaining, so we’re going to skip it.

Dennis Quaid was the first couch guest. He stars on the new show Vegas. The interview was fine. After it ended I was struck by the realization that Craig’s guest interviews seem to be evolving as much as his studio. In past years Craig’s conversations with his guests would be 100% silly ramblings about whatever. This one, however, was only 50% silly. The other 50% actually focused on the topic of Denis’ new show.  Here’s the interview:

Ellie Kemper was the second couch guest. She’s on the show The Office. The interview was terrific. Ellie was a ton of fun. Her energy and laughter were enjoyable to watch. She was a great sport with Craig’s flirting too. Here’s the interview:

The closing segment was super quick.

Decent show. I give it:
