Late Show Highlights

I had a tough time deciding whether to review Joaquin Phoenix’s return to the Late Show with David Letterman or the cast of Big Bang Theory on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson? I wish I had had the time to watch both.

Ultimately I decided on the Late Show because I just couldn’t resist seeing the reunion. In case you’re wondering what the heck I’m talking about, here is Letterman’s interview with Joaquin a year and a half ago. It is really hilarious:

Here were my favorite monologue jokes from last night’s episode:

Here’s how you can tell its autumn: Christine O’Donnell, that witch from Delaware, today she used her cauldron to make chowder.

The premiere of Hawaii 5-0 on CBS; how many of you saw that show? What a great episode. The cops are looking around and they accidentally stumble on Obama’s birth certificate.

Hey do you like old people? The world’s oldest man celebrating a birthday today; happy birthday, 114 years-old today. If you want to buy him a present hurry.

Here’s the problem with Paris Hilton trying to get into Japan: he couldn’t make it through the mental detector.

The desk segments included the Top Ten Things Overheard This Week at the United Nations:

Joaquin Phoenix was the couch guest, d’uh. The interview was pretty funny. Letterman went to work on Joaquin as soon as he sat down. Here’s a good summary clip of some of the verbal lashing that were unleashed:

Tom Jones was the musical guest. He was terrific:

Good show. I give it:
