Late Show Highlights

A really good Late Show with David Letterman last night. Here were my favorite monologue jokes:

Is it cold outside ladies and gentlemen? I thought so. You can tell its fall here in New York City. I went over to St. Patrick’s [Cathedral] today on my lunch hour. Have you been over there? They replaced the holy water with chowder.

Sarah Palin’s memoir has been published and is coming out in early November. I got an advanced copy of the Sarah Palin memoir and, listen to this, this time I was the one who quit halfway through. People in Alaska are looking forward to Sarah Palin’s memoir. They’re already calling it the “book to nowhere”. But, if you’re interested, Sarah Palin will be at Barnes and Noble later this fall for a book shooting. The book has got a lot of pictures, a lot of beautiful color photos that Sarah has taken from her front porch, beautiful pictures of Russia taken right there from her front porch. This is helpful; in the back is a complete index of all my apologies. Sarah Palin’s book is entitled Going Rogue. Not to be confused with John McCain’s new book entitled Going…uh…Where Was I Going?

The desk segment included the Top Ten Things Never Before Spoken By A Hockey Player and was presented by ten members of the New York Rangers. I’m not a big hockey fan, but the list was great.

Madonna was the first couch guest. David and Madonna have always had a contentious relationship. He constantly makes fun of her in his monologues and gives her a hard time during interviews. At the same time, she constantly teases him and makes him uncomfortable with her strong sexuality. Here are some previous interviews to show you what I mean. The first two are the best, but not NSFW:

Yet Letterman keeps inviting her back, and she keeps excepting the invitations. So I guess it’s a mutual love/hate thing. Last night’s interview didn’t have a ton of substance, but I absolutely loved it anyway. Here is a clip of highlights. It’s worth watching:

Harry Connick, Jr. was the second couch guest. He shared a few stories about chickens with Dave and then performed a song off his new CD. I can sum this guy up in four words: Good looking, good singer.

Overall I give it:

– Woody
